With the passage of time, all institutes grow old in their commitments and fall away from their ideal. There is constant need for the Congregation to rejuvenate itself, especially in these times of falling numbers. Our first criteria are our traditional ones: 'the poor and abandoned', 'difficult situations', works for which it is difficult to find personnel'. A missionary Congregation has to respond to the missionary challenges of the day if it is to maintain its credibility. The commitments of the past must be confronted with the calls of the present: from the poor who suffer injustice and have their human rights spurned, from neglected minorities, from the victims of ra-cism, from the refugee and migrants.

Avec le temps, tout institut vieillit dans ses engagements et s’éloigne de son idéal. Rajeunir la Congrégation est une nécessité constante, plus spécialement en période de baisse numérique. Nos critères traditionnels sont nos premiers critères : les pauvres et abandonnés, les situations difficiles, la difficulté de trouver des ouvriers. Une Congrégation se doit (aussi) de répondre aux situations missionnaires qui évoluent si elle veut garder sa crédibilité pour la Mission d’aujourd’hui, et d’être attentive aux tournants de la Mission.

Com o tempo, todo o Instituto envelhece nos seus compromissos e afasta-se do seu ideal. Rejuvenescer a Congregação é um necessidade constante, mais particularmente num tempo em que os números diminuem. Os nossos critérios tradicionais são os primeiros critérios: os pobres e abandonados, as situações difíceis, a dificuldade em encontrar obreiros. Uma Congregação tem (também) o dever de responder às situações missionárias que evoluem, se ela quiser conservar a sua credibilidade para a Missão de hoje, e estar atenta às mudanças da Missão.
