"M .Libermann did nothing out of the ordinary. No external mortification. His terrible health even prevented him from observing the days of fasting and abstinence laid down by the Church. So how did he become so high in sanctity? It is because he had the secret of doing even the most ordinary things in an extraordinary way, i.e. of doing them all in Our Lord. He was not particularly learned; he just did his prescribed studies like many other people. But his heart was always overflowing with God and his conversation filled us all with enthusiasm. He was full of life, he seemed almost to catch fire, he knew what it was to love and to help others to love."

M. Libermann n’a rien fait d’extraordinaire. Aucune mortification extérieure. Sa déplorable santé l’empêchait même d’observer les jours de jeûne et d’abstinence commandés par l’Église. D’où vient donc qu’il soit arrivé si haut? C’est qu’il avait le secret de faire les actions les plus communes d’une manière non commune, c’est-à-dire de les faire en Notre Seigneur. Il n’avait pas grande ouverture pour les sciences. Il a fait ses études, mais comme bien d’autres…Tandis que son cœur était toujours plein de Dieu, ne voyant que ce seul objet en tout, il nous enflammait tous dans ses conversations. Il s’animait, il prenait feu, il sentait ce que c’est que d’aimer et de faire aimer.

Libermann não fez nada de extraordinário. Nenhuma mortificação exterior. A sua precária saúde impedia-o mesmo de observar os dias de jejum e abstinência impostos pela Igreja. Então donde lhe vem que tenha chegado tão alto? É que ele tinha o segredo de fazer as acções mais comuns de uma maneira não comum, quer dizer de as fazer em Nosso Senhor. Ele não tinha grande abertura para as ciências. Fez os seus estudos mas como muitos outros... Enquanto o seu coração estava sempre cheio de Deus, não vendo outra coisa senão Ele, inflamava-nos a todos com as suas conversas. Animava-se, inflamava-se, sentia o que é amar e fazer amar.
