The first Roman Catholic Mission on the mainland of East Africa is founded at Bagamoyo (Apostolic Prefecture of Zanguebar) by Fathers An-toine Horner and Edouard Baur. Fr Horner and Brother Marcellin settle at Bagamoyo.
