Jean-Jacques Katty, son of the king of Thia, writes to Mgr. Duret (Vic. Apostolic of Conakry) asking for missionaries. He had been instructed and baptised by the Spiritans, along with his brothers Beno”t and Emmanuel. The request was forwarded to the General Council and resulted in an exploratory journey by Père Gommenginger from Sierra Leone. It marks the start of the mission in Guinée.

Jean-Jacques Katty, fils du roi de Thia, écrit à Mgr. Duret (vicaire apostolique de Dakar) pour lui demander des missionnaires. Avec ses frères Benoît et Emmanuel, il avait été instruit et baptisé par des Spiritains. Transmise au Conseil général, cette demande aboutit au voyage de reconnaissance du P.Gommenginger venu de Sierra Leone. C’est le début de la mission en Guinée.
