Rather than sacrifice justice and goodness, I have accepted to be persecuted. It is those who persecute who are miserable; to suffer for justice, to be punished for the sake of good, this is a blessing. The only sure happiness is in gentle goodness. If we are not to be the lackeys of tyrants, if we are to be faithful to brotherhood and justice amongst men, we have to have the courage to be right and to sup-port those who are right. Plutôt que de perdre la justice et la bonté, j’ai accepté d’être persécuté. C’est persécuter qui est un malheur. Souffrir pour la justice, pleurer provisoirement pour être bon, c’est la béatitude: le seul bonheur sûr, c’est la bonté dans la douceur.Pour ne pas être le laquais des tyrans, pour être fidèle à la fraternité et la justice entre les hommes, il faut avoir le courage d’avoir raison et de pousser ceux qui ont raison. Antes do que perder justiça e a bondade, consenti em ser perseguidos. Perseguir é que é desgraça. Sofrer pela justiça, chorar provisoriamente, para ser bom, isso sim é que é bem-aventurança: a única ventura firme é a mansa bondade... Para não ser lacaio dos tiranos, para ser fiel à fraternidade e à justiça entre os homens, é preciso ter a coragem de ter razão e animar os que têm. Por isso o “Reino de Deus é de violência, e os violentos o conquistam”
