"The Congregation of the Holy Spirit was founded on the day of Pentecost, 1703, by M. Poulart-Deplaces of the diocese of Rennes with a view to training priests consecrated to working in the most neglected works. For a long time, this work relied entirely on alms given by charitable people; the venerable founder himself used to go looking for such help and then he would serve the students with his own hands and help them by doing the most menial of tasks" (Libermann: A Notice on the Congregation of the Holy Spirit and the Immaculate Heart of Mary and its works, 1850).
La congrégation du Saint-Esprit fut fondée le jour de la Pentecôte 1703 par M. Poulart-Desplaces, du diocèse de Rennes, dans le but d'élever des ecclésiastiques destinés à se consacrer aux œuvres les plus délaissées. Longtemps cette œuvre ne subsista que des aumônes de personnes charitables ; le vénérable fondateur allait lui-même les chercher, puis il servait ses élèves de ses propres mains, et leur rendait les services les plus humbles. A Congregação do Espirito Santo foi fundada no dia de Pentecostes de 1703 por Poullart des Places, da diocese de Rennes, com o fim de educar eclesiásticos destinados a consagrarem-se às obras mais abandonadas. Durante muito tempo esta obra subsistiu apenas com as esmolas de pessoas caritativas; o venerável fundador ia ele próprio procurá-las, depois servia os alunos com as suas próprias mãos e prestava-lhes os serviços mais humildes.
