"Missionary activity proper, namely the mission ad gentes, is di-rected to "peoples or groups who do not yet believe in Christ," "who are far from Christ," in whom the Church "has not yet taken root" and whose culture has not yet been influenced by the Gospel. It is distinct from other ecclesial activities inasmuch as it is addressed to groups and settings which are non-Christian because the preaching of the Gospel and the presence of the Church are either absent or insufficient. It can thus be characterised as the work of proclaiming Christ and his Gospel, building up the local Church and promoting the values of the kingdom" (John Paul II: Redemptoris Missio 34).
L’activité missionnaire spécifique, ou mission ad gentes, s’adresse “aux peuples et aux groupes humains qui ne croient pas encore au Christ”, à “ceux qui sont loin du Christ”, chez qui l’Église “n’a pas encore été enracinée” et dont la culture n’a pas encore été imprégnée de l’Évangile. Elle a donc pour caractère d’être une action d’annonce du Christ et de son Évangile, d’édification de l’Église locale et de promotion des valeurs du Royaume. (Jean-Paul II, Redemptoris Missio.n° 34).
A actividade missionária específica, ou missão ad gentes, tem como destinatários “os povos ou grupos que ainda não crêem em Cristo, aqueles que estão longe de Cristo”, entre os quais a Igreja “não está ainda radicada” e cuja cultura ainda não foi influenciada pelo Evangelho. Vem a ser portanto, a obra do anúncio de Cristo e do seu Evangelho, da edificação da Igreja local, da promoção dos valores do Reino. (Redemptoris Missio,34).
