In your missionary work, you need courage, peace, interior humil-ity and trust in God alone; this must be complemented by a Christian mistrust of your own strength and ideas. You will need great strength, not so much to fight against external opposition (which will certainly not be lacking) but rather to struggle against yourself amidst the sufferings, contradictions and obstacles that will come your way so that you will not let them upset you too much. You must learn to put up with these things with the serenity of a man of God.
[dans votre tâche missionnaire] Vous avez besoin de courage, de paix, d’humilité intérieure et de confiance en Lui seul, accompagnée de défiance chrétienne dans vos propres lumières et forces. Il vous faut une grande force non pas tant pour lutter contre les oppositions du dehors, celle-là ne vous manquera assurément pas ; mais pour lutter contre vous-même dans les peines, les contradictions, les échecs, afin de ne pas vous troubler ni trop affecter. Precisa de uma grande força não tanto para lutar contra as oposições exteriores, seguramente essa não lhe faltará; mas para lutar contra si mesmo nos sofrimentos, nas contradições, nos fracassos, a fim de não se perturbar nem se afligir muito.
